Searching for a refreshing Italian cocktail to enjoy during warm weather? Try a delightful limoncello spritz! This simple and refreshing drink is made with limoncello, prosecco, and club soda, making it the perfect bubbly treat.

The Limoncello Spritz is a twist on the popular Aperol Spritz, known for its vibrant orange hue, tart-sweet taste, and the essential orange slice. Due to its origins, it's sometimes referred to as the Amalfi Spritz.

Limoncello, the primary component of this cocktail, originates from the sun-drenched south of Italy, especially the area surrounding the Gulf of Naples, Sorrento, and the Amalfi Coast. This classic Italian liqueur is crafted from lemon peel, alcohol, water, and sugar. The tradition of producing limoncello has been handed down through generations and is a source of pride for these regions.

Bright yellow against an azure blue coast – these are the dreamlike colors of Amalfi. It’s very easy to bring a sip of it into your home with our recipe! Especially in summer, the refreshing, squeaky yellow limoncello brings sunny Italian pleasure to your glass!

The recipe is literally just as simple as the ingredients:

  1. Prosecco or some other white sparkling wine

  2. Nice cold limoncello liqueur

  3. And soda water (sparkling water)

It's 3 parts prosecco, 2 parts limoncello, and one part soda water. That's it! Pour them all into your glass, give it a quick stir to combine, and you now have your new favorite cocktail!

You can jazz it up in your cocktail glass with a sprig of mint, basil or any other fresh herb you like, maybe a slice of lemon or a pretty lemon wheel or a fancy lemon twist, and a nice amount of ice to keep it chill on a hot summer day!

  • With appetizers. Make limoncello spritzes and serve them with a few different appetizers. My Italian pinwheels or grilled mini sweet peppers with goat cheese would be great choices, as would bacon wrapped scallops and these irresistible rosemary thyme spiced nuts.

  • As a brunch cocktail. Similar to a mimosa, a limoncello spritz is a lovely drink to serve during brunch. Try a limoncello spritz with an overnight egg bake or an assortment of sweet breakfast eats like banana bread, crepes, or waffles!

  • With a summery meal from the grill. The limoncello spritz was made for warm summer evenings. It’d be delightful with grilled shrimp, a grilled whole chicken, or grilled chicken kabobs with grapes!

Limoncello is an Italian liqueur crafted from the zest of fresh organic lemons, sugar, and high-proof grain alcohol.

The lemons used in genuine limoncello from the Amalfi coast are large and organic (referred to as 'untreated'), featuring thick rinds. These thick peels are rich in lemon oil, which provides the authentic lemon flavor, rather than the juice.

The lemon peels are soaked in grain alcohol for several days or even weeks, then strained and combined with simple syrup. It's served as a digestif in cordial glasses throughout Italy, as it's believed to help with digestion.
