For 2026, Ruinart has welcomed Japanese artist Tadashi Kawamata to participate in Conversations with Nature, the Maison’s global series that encourages artists to reestablish an aware connection with the natural environment.

His project launches with the presentation of two artworks at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris in February, followed by a permanent installation of three pieces at Ruinart's historic location at 4 rue des Crayères in Champagne. The artworks will then be displayed at partner art fairs throughout the year.

Tadashi Kawamata is famous for his in-situ installations made from wood and pieces of furniture. During his visit to Ruinart in Reims, the Japanese artist was struck by the harmony of the Maison in Champagne and the porous barriers with the elements. Motivated by these initial impressions, he created a series of drawings and models, as well as three on-site installations in Reims: Tree Hut, Nest, and Observatory.

“I like the idea of miniaturization. Big things become small, in-situ installations become objects. This changes the relationship with scale and the hand. An object is autonomous, closed in on itself. Whereas an installation is in constant dialogue with the site, climate and scale. They are complementary and enrich each other,” Tadashi Kawamata explains.
